I have been doing this since 2008 when the box opened. I wanted to keep fit and I like to challenge myself. The programming is superior. The logic behind why we do certain things has really become apparent and I appreciate the time and effort with this to help everyone become better. My favorite thing about CrossFit Lewisville is the incredible coaches and the location. Also, my fellow crossfitters are awesome! I have never been around such an encouraging group of people - many who are now good friends!
I have been competing in various things since my 20’s (running races from 5ks to marathons, triathlons, etc.) but had really burned out. I found myself out of shape focused only on work which was destroying my family life as well as health. I knew of CrossFit because my daughter Carly had been attending with her swim team. I stopped by one day, spoke with this young lady (turned out to be Lindsey) and signed up on the spot. I found myself learning skills I had never done, which was frustrating, but the trainers in their own ways pushed me to figure it out. This personal attention is what really sold me of CrossFit Lewisville/Flower Mound.
After running 13 half marathons and 1 marathon I still didn't see myself as "fit". I tried personal training at LA Fitness but the trainers seemed to stay for only a few weeks then would move on to something else. Never becoming comfortable with a trainer and always dreading the workouts made my commitment sporadic at best. I left with close to 50 sessions left and started CrossFit with Misti after her telling me how much fun it would be. That was almost 2 years ago! I still love it so much I've jumped from 3 workouts a week to 4, maybe more. I am proud of the fact that I am 42 years old and in the best shape of my life. I have always been active, from volleyball & softball in high school to wanting to run a marathon before I turned 40 (and I did at 38!) to settling in as a half marathon bling junkie (yes, I do it for the medals); but I have never been fit like this - strong and muscular and still feeling 25. And I've logged my fastest 5k and half marathon after CrossFit. I love the instructors and the people. Every class provides you with a great workout, a few laughs, and tons of encouragement.
A former boss told me he was concerned about my health during a performance review. It was a shock, but after talking to my wife about it and her basically saying, "well, he's right," I started the on-ramp course at Crossfit Lewisville with some buddies from the office. By far my favorite thing about Crossfit Lewisville are the coaches. I feel like each coach knows me personally and really cares about my fitness. A close second to this is the community we have here. I keep coming back because even though I know the workout is going to kill me, I'll be going through it with a band of brothers and sisters who will encourage each other throughout it. The thing I'm most proud of in the gym is the progress toward being healthy. That can be measured in many ways, but when I pick up a 45-pound plate and a 25-pound plate at the same time it's a physical reminder of the 70 pounds of fat I've lost since starting Crossfit. Now when I run, burpee or box jump it's hard to imagine doing any of those while lugging around another 70 pounds.
I have always been athletic, but as I dove further and further into my career, my health began to go out the window. I was significantly overweight and finally just got sick of it. I didn't know anything about Crossfit and didn't know anyone doing it. With my crazy work schedule, CrossFit became something my wife and I could consistently do together and get excited about. Since we started I've lost 15 lbs., gained muscle mass, and most importantly, I feel incredible! Without a doubt, my favorite thing about CrossFit Lewisville is the people. There is an amazing sense of community and it makes it easier to get up at 4:20am. I love the members and the coaches.
